It is our responsibility, as a community, to work together on a project that is long lasting and provides a safe environment for our children. We live in a wonderful community with access to the incredible outdoors. Please get involved and support the NEAT project.

“What
is it going to take for the town of Evergreen to address the extreme
safety hazard caused by the lack of walkways and safe crossings for our
children? There are over 1200 children ages preschool thru middle
school who go to school in North Evergreen, and not one sidewalk or
safe crosswalk to those schools. I live directly across from Bergen
Meadow Elementary School. I have three children: ages 6, 5 and 2.
During the school year we walk to school each morning (many people
recognize me as the lady with the panic-stricken face trying to cross
the street to school with three small children). Due to the safety
hazard of crossing Hiwan Drive at that time of day, I am always very
cautious. However on three separate occasions this past year, my 5
year-old was very nearly hit by a car. Each time I could not believe
that a car would drive so fast by an elementary school. Each time I
tried to figure out how to keep my impulsive 5 year-old, along with his
two sisters, safer while we crossed. Each time I could not believe
there was not a safe crossing to our elementary school or even a
sidewalk on which to walk to school. Each time I wondered if I would
get another chance to skirt tragedy.”
